Listen More and Speak Less!
Last weekend I had the opportunity to talk to a married couple about some behavior of their 7 year old daughter. These parents were unknowingly experiencing misbehavior due to an attention need.
Parents
Your children will ALWAYS need to know that they are loved, special and that they matter. Take time to sit with each individual child throughout the week and allow your child to talk about their day.
Listen more and speak less!
When your child hears all of the things they are NOT allowed to do ("get down, stop climbing, put that away, sit down"), they are like a ticking time bomb for misbehavior to showcase itself. Remember to provide options for your child. Instead of telling them what they are NOT allowed to do, show them what they CAN do. Provide options for your children at all ages. From infant to school age.
If you are concerned with your child not getting as much social skills if they are doing virtual learning, I want to encourage you to get your child involved in sports. Depending on your location, you have the option to participate in Wrestling, Gymnastics, T-Ball, Baseball, Softball, Track and Field, Basketball, Soccer and more. Find out what it is your child is naturally interested in by observing their habits during their free time. There are also cheer*leading, dance and even chess clubs. Keeping your child well-rounded in all areas in ESSENTIAL in your child's development.
